Varuthini Ekadashi

Varuthini Ekadashi

Ekadashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month. In the scriptures this Agiyaras is called Varuthiini Ekadashi. It is said about this Ekadashi Vrat that by ritually observing it one gets salvation.

Varuthinini's Vrat always brings happiness and destroys sins. The fruit which a person gets after ten thousand years of penance. The same fruit is obtained just by observing the fast of this Varuthi Ekadashi. Donating an elephant is better than donating a horse. Land donation is a greater donation than that. Taldan is more important than land donation. Suvarnadana is greater than Taldana and Annadana is greater than Suvarnadana. Because gods, fathers and humans are satisfied only with food. Learned men have shown Kanyadan to be similar to this donation.

Donation of cow is equal to Kanyadan. This is the statement of the real God. Vidyadaan is greater than all these donations. By fasting on Varuthi Ekadashi, people also get the fruits of Vidyadaan. People who are enamored with sin and earn their living from bride's money. They fall into the torturous hell as the purity decays. Hence one should make every effort to avoid bridewealth. It should not be taken in one's work.

Even Chitragupta is unable to show the number of merits of those who adorn their brides with ornaments according to their power and donate them with holy spirit. Even by doing Varuthi Ekadashi, people can get the same fruit.

Vrata Katha - In ancient times there was a king named Mandhata who was ruling on the banks of river Narmada. The king was very liberal and religious minded. Once when the king was engrossed in penance in the forest, a wild bear came and started chewing the king's feet. The king did not panic and remained immersed in his penance.

After a few minutes, the bear dragged the king into a forest, chewing on his legs. Now the king got scared but due to penance and religion the king did not get angry or violent and started praying to Lord Vishnu. After listening to the king's prayer, Bhaktavatsala Lord Sri Vishnu appeared and killed the bear with his chakra.

The bear had eaten the king's leg. This made the king very sad. Seeing which, Lord Vishnu said, O Vatsa, you will not be sad. You should go to Mathura and worship my Varaha avatar idol by observing Varuthi Ekadashi fast there. By its influence you will again become full-limbed.

This bear has eaten your leg was the crime of your previous birth. Obeying God's order, the king went to Mathura and faithfully performed this vow, under the influence of which he became beautiful and full-bodied.
